Pinpointing a specific price, however, isn’t possible without consulting a plastic surgeon and discussing the options involved with the procedure. That’s because several factors influence the cost of breast augmentation.

In this post, I’ll explain those factors and provide details about what’s included in the price we quote for breast augmentation patients at our plastic surgery practice in Northbrook, Illinois.

Factors Influencing the Cost of Breast Augmentation

Among the first things to consider when calculating the price of breast augmentation are the plastic surgeon’s qualifications, experience, and reputation. While it may be tempting to choose a less expensive option, the surgeon’s expertise directly influences the quality of results and minimizes potential complications.

Additionally, the geographic location of the practice matters. Getting breast implants in the Chicago area is typically more expensive than what you’d pay in Missoula, Montana, for example. But other factors affect the price you pay for breast augmentation, too.

Breast Implant Type

You can choose implants filled with a saline solution or silicone gel. Within the silicone gel category are implants of different levels of cohesiveness. Saline implants are less expensive than silicone implants. Most breast augmentation patients believe that smooth, round silicone gel implants look and feel more like natural breasts than saline implants. Although the cost of the implant and how it relates to your budget is important, your preference for the look and feel of the implants should be the primary factor in your choice.

Anesthetic Type

Even though some surgeons may perform breast augmentation using a local anesthetic plus sedation, which is a less expensive option, I typically use a general anesthetic when performing breast augmentation to ensure the patient remains comfortable throughout the procedure.

Time in the OR

The fee for the time in the operating room is one of the costs included in the total price of breast augmentation surgery. Most procedures take a similar amount of time, but additional surgical time can increase the cost.

Combining Procedures

Many women who get breast implants combine breast augmentation with body contouring procedures, such as liposuction or a tummy tuck. This is especially true for women who have finished having children and want a mommy makeover.

How Much Does Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Cost?

Fat grafting, which involves removing fat from another area of your body using liposuction and transferring it to the breasts, is an alternative to breast augmentation with implants. Because the surgery involves 2 separate procedures, it takes longer to perform and increases the cost. I use fat grafting to complement breast augmentation with implants rather than as an alternative because the results are unpredictable and can only modestly increase the size of the breasts. What Is Included in the Cost of Breast Augmentation?

After your consultation, we provide you with a document that details the estimated cost of your breast augmentation. The cost includes:

• Surgical and operating room fees
• Fees charged by the anesthesiologist
